Everyone knows about the MTV hit show Catfish about people all over the country taking part in online dating, falling in love only to find out that the people they have been talking to for months isn’t who they thought it was. Well, it isn’t just the people on MTV that this happens to, it happened to me too.
On Facebook a man messaged my JustBlauMe page to let me know that a woman named Vanessa has been using my photos and has been talking to him. Once he started talking to her, he realized that something was a little “fishy” and decided to do a Google image search to see where they came from, and saw that they were not hers!
So, after receiving the message, I decided to do some research of my own. I tried contacting and reporting this woman on PlentyOfFish.com, but had to create a profile in order to do so. Pain in my ass. I messaged this Vanessa chick and tell her to delete her profile immediately AND reported her to PlentyOfFish customer care.
Truthfully many people do this because of insecurity and fear of rejection, but that doesn’t make it fair to those like me, whose identities are compromised and photos are used without permission. Moreover, it’s especially unfair to the people who think they’ve met their match online only to find out people aren’t who they think they are.
Dear Miss V-nessa2013,
While this was surely flattering it’s also a bit creepy because you’re not only attracting men with my photos, but you’re engaging in conversation and setting up dates with guys as well. I’m sorry but don’t you think they’d realize you’re not me when you finally meet them in person?
If I were you, I’d be proud of who you are, instead of pretending to be someone else because I’m sure you’re beautiful in your own way!

You don’t need to use my photos to get men to be interested in you, because you want a man who likes you for you, not me! I hope you delete your account, and create one that is true to who you are because when it comes to online dating, being true to you is key to finding a match. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, be proud!
Delete your profile pretending to be me, and create a new one as you or Just Blau Me.
