You’re bodies are warm and when you start touching yourselves and each other it gets hot…. and then when it’s really good, you’re probably a little sweaty, and as your lips and bodies collide your hearts begin racing, clothes come off and between the panting, moving around, thrusting and holding up your body, and changing positions SEX may as well be a work-out but it is sufficient to consider sex exercise?
Sex is definitely 100% a form of exercise as it gets your heart rate going and you’re utilizing many different muscles from your tongue to your toes, but depending on the type of sex you’re having, how many positions you do, and how long you both last, sex can be more or less effective as a form of a calorie burning exercise.
According to a study conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine, sex lasts six minutes on average and only burns about 21 calories. That doesn’t even make up for one Dunkin Donuts munchkin, let alone a whole donut!
Depressing? Maybe, but that’s reality and then we wonder why the country is battling obesity.
According to WebMD, 30 minutes of sex can burn anywhere from 85 to 100 calories; but even at the higher end of the statistic, you’re most likely at the 100 mark.
If you think about it, an hour of hot passionate sex burns about 200 calories and that’s if you’re pounding each other for all 60 minutes straight.
Research shows that women who regularly exercise have more active sex lives, reach orgasm more quickly and are more easily aroused than women who don’t have active sex lives.
Keep in mind, being active also doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re sleeping with different partners, but rather having lots of sexual activity on a consistent basis, hopefully with one person for your sexual safety and health.
If you’re wondering when you can get the most out of having sex, keep in mind that a man’s testosterone levels are the highest between 7 and 8 a.m. Not only does he most likely naturally wake up with a boner, but he’s also got the most charge and will be ready to go. Wake up 30 minutes earlier to have sex, and you can start your day burning 100 calories!
In order to maximize your sexercise, make sure to engage your core at all times, during foreplay and intercourse. My contracting your core it helps not only make you look hotter in the moment, but it also will strengthen your abs…. can you say 6 pack?
For women, don’t forget to do Kegels in order to exercise your pelvic floor muscles. Doing kegels not only feels good for men because it makes your vagina feel tighter, but it also increases your likelihood of achieving a vaginal orgasm from your G-spot and A-spot during intercourse.
Have sex for the sheer pleasure of it, but also because it IS exercise and well, any exercise is better than none, right?
