Breast cancer is a terrible disease that affects women all over the world. About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Most women and men diagnosed with breast cancer are given a mastectomy, in which the entire breast is removed surgically.

After a mastectomy, women and men may either reduce their risk of cancer, or be cancer free, but they’re still left with a nasty looking scar, which serves as a constant reminder of the struggle of the breast cancer.

An organization called Personal Ink- P.ink has created the P.ink Project, in which tattoo artists give breast cancer survivors a new, more positive way to look at their scars.

Inkspiration_AppWomen with breast cancer are usually given 2 options when undergoing a mastectomy, reconstruction or no reconstruction, but either way they’re left with scars that remind them of their cancer. P.ink gives women a third option by allowing them to use tattoos to reconstruct their scars into beautiful pieces of art!

All of the tattoo artists that are a part of the P.ink Project have scar or mastectomy tattoo experience, and there is a list of these artists on their Pinterest page! There is also an app called Inkspiration and you can download it here.  that allows you to take a picture of your breasts and try on different tattoos to see how it would look on you. You can also share the finished images with friends and family for their opinions and support.

The organization is working with 10 pre-screened artists in the North America and works solely based off of donations, so cancer survivors don’t have to worry about paying for their beautiful boobies. Isn’t that wonderful? It starts by women signing up here, and then P.ink 10457682_765582036823626_2231912473261821914_omatches each woman with a tattoo artist in their area, and the art is paid by supporters.

It’s great to see organizations like this giving women and their boobies the power and strength they need and deserve. #pinktattooday, cheers to beautiful boobs and happy Monday!
